Below is an easy to use Retirement and mortgage calculator for your use. These calculators are just meant to give you an idea of how much certain homes might cost and how much it actually takes to save for retirement. My job is to find ways to make your money work for you in a more efficient manner.
When inputting numbers for what you expect your investment returns to be, try not to pick something ridiculous. I try and pick somewhere around 5% if you're an average investor as to err on the side of caution. Also, as of right now, if you are entitled to full CPP and OAS (which you might not be), will be approximately $1,400/month. That's much higher than the average Canadian receives, but if you've lived here forever and have made over about $53,000 in INCOME (in relation to inflation) for your entire working career, then you'll be entitled to the full benefit.
Also, when buying a house, I would always advise against borrowing up to your actual limit. That is a recipe for disaster.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, or if you'd like to have a comprehensive retirement analysis done.
