K4 Financial - Steps to a Cure
A Race to Beat Pancreatic Cancer
10 years ago, we lost our father to pancreatic cancer. At the time, I had very little idea what pancreatic cancer really was, but now I am all too aware that it is one of the worst forms of cancer.
Ever since the day I lost my dad, who was a brilliant and wonderful man, I have wanted to do something to help raise awareness and funds for a cause that had such a profound and negative effect on our family.
A few years ago, the city of Edmonton decided to put a trail system in behind our house and we were lucky enough to get a memorial for my dad on the bench at the top of the Wolf Willow Stairs.
We are incredibly happy with the spot as it is absolutely beautiful. We also know that my dad would have loved it because he loved this city, he loved the river valley and he was always running and biking through our beautiful trail system in YEG.
This spot has become a very popular spot for Edmontonians, who are outside, trying to improve their physical health by climbing the very challenging stairs. It makes us happy to know that people are using our dad's bench to enjoy an incredible view after they've worked hard at trying to improve their physical health.
My Idea - The Race
One morning, while I was struggling up these 200 steps I came up with my idea. It was so simple that I couldn't believe I never thought of it before. I want to put on a charity race that will have competitors racing up these stairs over to the top of the Rio Terrace stairs and back. The race will be one-hour in length and I am hoping to find 25 men and 25 women who would like to compete.
I will commit to donating $100/lap for the number of laps the top man and woman complete within the hour.
I am also hoping that each competitor can commit to attempting to raise some money for the cause, with all proceeds going to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
The race will take place on the morning of September 24, 2017 (weather dependant) and I will be looking for volunteers and sponsorship opportunities from any small businesses in the city who would like to support our event. More details will follow, but please share this with anyone you know who might want to participate and challenge themselves as it will not be an easy event.
Please share this post and if you'd like to sign up, sponsor a racer, or just make a donation for the hell of it, please follow this link.: https://albertacancer.ca/K4FinancialStepsForaCure
Thank you so much for your support and please enjoy the remainder of your summer.
